The vulnerability is caused when the Telnet service improperly validates user input. Vulnerabilities addressed in this bulletin: Windows Telnet Service Buffer Overflow Vulnerability A buffer overflow vulnerability exists in Windows Telnet service that could allow remote code execution. Only customers who manually install this service are likely to be vulnerable. By default, Telnet is not installed on any affected operating system releases. The vulnerability could allow remote code execution if an attacker sends specially crafted packets to an affected Windows server. This security update resolves a privately reported vulnerability in Microsoft Windows.
